Plasma burn-in, can it be fixed?

Uh, it was dealt with elsewhere. User repetitively abused plasma with static images after an update set plasma to torch mode, which user did not notice. Plasma was perfect for years before this happened.

Well tried!

And this one ?
Item name (be very descriptive): Samsung Plasma TV 51" - PS51D550

Face it, these PDPs are self destructive devices

Hmmm I dunno, bought my LG 60" Plasma last year sometimes, it's got insane burn-in due to static game menu's.

Doesn't bother me though

Think you're referring to image retention? Which is normal. Burn-in is permanent, seldom and only in the worst case.

The purple haze from that one for sale sound like horrific burn in. Either for normal use or botched firmware setting the display to store mode.

Could be image retention I guess, don't really know the difference tbh
When an image is displayed not because of input, but because of display panel failure it is bad. retention or burn-in, either is unacceptable.

Retention isn't common, nor is it an issue. Burn-in is extremely rare. Retention is usually gone within a few seconds of changing channels/screens, therefore it is a non issue for most.

Even if it did irk me, I'd much rather take plasma's superior picture quality over LCD.

Retention is something one can live with as it is temporary, still shows a serious flaw in the technology. Burn in on the other hand is a big problem and affects all plasma displays after a couple of years of use. Best to just go with superior LED from the get go.

You're lying.

As we see in this thread we have two more people affected by the horrors of [-]monochrome CRT[/-] plasma burn in.

Light bleed is far less annoying, and if it really is a problem get a good D-LED panel.

If you're interested in good picture quality, light bleed is a massive concern. It shows how flawed backlit flat screen TV technology is. Self illumination is the only way for good picture quality. Which is exactly why plasma is better (and OLED).

You're only after large cheap LCD, bang for buck. You're not a 'purist' in any way who values picture quality.

How is that proving anything? Go Google plasma burn in and looks pics, hmm a little light bleed or having to stare at the previous channels logo for three hours, or run a sweep at night to fix it, or not use the TV as a TV cause afraid of static images burning in.

Because light bleed is directly related to the reason LCD will never be better than plasma or OLED - that it is backlit, meaning in order to display the darkest black, there is still light being transmitted, which is why you have light bleed (and less deep, non inky blacks).

A plasma's self-illuminated pixels can decide whether they want to be on or off. Massive difference which is the foundation of why plasma is superior. Same reason it has much better contrast ratios (across the entire screen ;)), full viewing angles without colour shift, etc.
