Came across this article discussing the vast difference in pay between the the Australian players and the West Indies players. I used to think the WI Players were selfish for walking away from the India series recently, but now that I see their earnings were cut from US $17,500 to US $5,000 I take it all back.
Anyway it got me wondering what the other countries' pay the players. The article covered AUS, NZ and WI...
AUS: Contracted players earn Aus $250,000 (ZAR 2,9m) to Aus $1,500,000(ZAR 17m), with a home test fee of Aus $ 15,450 (ZAR 175k) and away test fee of Aus $ 21,631 (ZAR 245k).
WI: Contracted players between US $100,000 (ZAR 1,6m) and US $140,000 (ZAR 2,1m) and a flat fee of US $5,000 (ZAR 78k).
Its clear with that fee we will never see the best WI talent involved in Tests IMO. Does anyone know how much the Proteas earn? Only info published are who the contracted players are, not how much they are paid...
