Playing Backups on XBOX360

I wish it was but m$oft is obsessed with the piracy angle vs the convenience factor.

I'd sooner play the games off a hdd (like I do with my dvds) but I guess that's not likely either. :o

@Bwana, I was playing that COD4 beta recently which ran off the HDD and I fully agree with you... it made life so much easier..

Unfortunately it is not M$ obessesed with piracy though it is the pirates who seem to be obsessed... It's amazing how they justify theft publically like they do...

cheap ass pirate...

Anything is possible, just not recommended....

Who said anything about pirate games? I'm talking about my own backups. I hear too many people complaining about Discs that get scratches on them and stop working or giving problems. Children don't know how to look after these stuff.

Look after the kids ;)

Scratched discs can be replaced by the stores if the 360 damaged them... I have had a 360 for over a year now with absolutely no problems. The scratching issue only affected a few people...

Don't turn the thing while it is playing though, that's nasty

Yeah, Like I have time to that 24/7. If I buy them a XBOX it is because I want them to keep themselves busy when I'm not around. The main problem is the idea of them borrowing the games to friends and when they return the games it looks like they played with it in the park.

That's why I will think twice to buy one. Not now anyway.

That's just standard linear kinematics ;) Don't turn anything that's already turning . . .

But on the Backups issue, firstly what gav said - MS will replace any damaged Microsoft published disc. and secondly, if you go the mod way and nerf your 360 you:

a. Void your warranty,
b. will be banned from Xbox Live!
c. Risk bricking your 360
d. Will not be able to update your dashboard, which in turn means you may not be able to play games released in the future.

So yes it's possible, but you're asking for heaps of doo doo.

I have seen some devices mentioned that claim they can hide the firmware modification or they allow you to switch between original and modified firmware, but I haven't done any checking to see if the claims are true. Presumably a genuine modchip will become available. It would be great if we could get a modification that allows playing games from the hard drive, the use of any hard drive, removal of both game and DVD region checking.

For now you'd have to make do with a PS2 or original Xbox if you want to play games off a hard drive.

Does the Xbox support security certificates? Surely they could assign a game to a certificate which is in turn glued to the profile/xbox serial number?

That's not really the issue, the issue is more in distribution. As long as the game is sold as a fixed item - ie - the disc, it remains transferable so you can't sign a particular game to a consoles. And the day Consoles use CD-keys is the day people stop buying consoles games.

what if i lose my disc or scratc the disc and cannot play it anymore......ALWAYS some angle to get copies and chipped consoles:( then you all complain at the price of games..........Sorry folks if you cant afford a game dont get it,waut till you can you will enjoy it more:p. I have no time for people that copy games:mad:

Hi guys

Is it possible to play Backups on a XBOX360?

not worth the risks... your only option is to go into a store dressed as a real pirate and raid their xbox section while wearing your clever pirate guise and run like hell from the security and possibly the police.

not suggested either... but if pulled off you will be well stocked... and will feel all warm n fuzzy cuz you using legit software.

good stores would be them value marts with open parkings etc... your pirate mates can be in a getaway car (make sure you remove number plates, etc)

bakkie is great with some petrol bombs, shotguns incase you encounter heavy resistance.

er... yeah... but then i wouldn't recommend this course of action. :)

get the kids a Wii :P they will love you forever

"kids, just play with your Wii while i'm gone"

I enjoy how everyone here laments and despises the pirate. Every single person I know has done some form of "Illegal" activity on their pc's. If it is not downloading MP3's, then it is copying a movie for their friends. Discussion and talk of piracy always leads to flame wars from the nerds and the geek aficionados galore. If true Legal software statistics of every user in South Africa was released (this is of course and impossibility), there would be egg on the face of every single one of us. Flame away.
