As far as I know there shouldn't be a difference right? All I need to change is the log-on server in some file? And I will be able to play?

no. blizzard has stated millions of times that you will not be able to log onto a EU server with US details or vice versa

Err..that may not be entirely true.

I once tried out the EU twilight's hammer server using the US version ( about 2 months ago ). I am not sure if it still works, but worth trying. All I changed was the info in realmlist.wtf:

set realmlist us.logon.worldofwarcraft.com

TO

set realmlist eu.logon.worldofwarcraft.com

This worked for me. Encountered some problems with incoming chat though, some of the text had weird characters. I do suggest you get the EU version
if you're going to play extensively. Hope it works for you.

It does actualy work, but you will have to download and install patches with the US extention on it. The change in the realmlist is sufficiant.

Had to do this for 3 years, while staying in Germany, they only sold the German version of WOW, since the language patch become an open download I ran off a us version I have gotten via torrent.

ok so are you using EU login details on a US server or US details on us with a EU wow exe?

No, no
U still need a CD key and account that are region specific. US accounts dont work in EU...
The game instalation itself can be turned from US to EU though...

The CD key is bound to your account and not to the copy of the game you play with.

I know that i just wanted to make sure of the facts.... i was talking about the accounts not the exe regions in my first post.

note to self: do not post before midday

I'm not going to try my US account
I'm going to get a EU account

All I need to know is if the US version of the game that I have installed will play if I change the logon server in the file

Thanks, all I needed to know. I'm going to be playing on an English based server so if they want to type weird characters at me then the msg wasn't that important

Suggest you go read about it on the EU technical section of the forum (official blizard forum), been discussed there to death already. Like I said I have done it in the past, but it is a nigtmare to get updates...

Not really worried about the updates hey, I have several people who play the US version at home who'd be more than willing to let us save some bandwidth

I will maybe keep you guys posted to see if I could get this working

Thnx for the feedback

The availability of downloads is not what I was refering too :p
The US small updates might be a week ahead of the eu one, thus u will not be able to play for a week ...

*shrug*

The only thing I noticed it still said "US" on the realm list, but I'm on the EU servers when I joined up... so ye
