It is, but if you are paranoid about it, format the drive in Windows with NTFS. If formatted in Windows 7 or Vista the sectors will be aligned. If they aren't aligned, the Seagate drive has a special firmware feature that internally "aligns" the partition with no penalty to performance.

SATA are always compatible with newer versions (eg. a SATA 1st gen controller can still use SATA 3rd gen disks, at lower speed however).

I bought quite a few of those players and drives yesterday and personally tested one before I sold it. Worked 100%
