A secret medical waste dumping operation next to a busy Gauteng township may never have been exposed were it not for a quad biker riding on an abandoned mine.

More than 10 tons of hazardous waste, including used syringes, needles, expired medicine, drips, blood and amputated limbs, were dumped and burnt just a few hundred metres from the Angelo settlement near Boksburg - and children played in it.

This part of the article is interesting:

Aid Safe Waste incinerates an average of 350 tons of medical waste from Gauteng, Limpopo, Free State and KwaZulu Natal each month. The dumped waste could have originated from Limpopo.

The extra load from the provinces, Sekete admitted, was causing problems with the incineration.

Why the extra load? Are Aids and TB taking their toll?

Is this a case of lowest price BEE deal going wrong. Does anyone have more information about this case?
