The UK research, commissioned by Continental Tyres and covering 2000 drivers split evenly between gamers and non-gamers, revealed that those who raced on consoles such as PlayStation and Xbox are twice as likely to speed, run a red light, suffer road rage and make an accident claim.

Nearly half of the gamers interviewed in the study of 17 to 39-year-olds admitted they take risks on the road and get angry at other road users. A quarter of the gamers said they speed and scare other passengers with their driving, compared with 13 and 11 per cent respectively for non-gamers.

Continental Tyres safety expert Tim Bailey says the results, which also revealed more gamers had been stopped by police, used mobile phones while driving and hit stationary objects when parking, prove computer-game users need to be aware there's no reset switch in the real world.

Lol Ive had a few moments when driving after playing NFS all day when suddenly I realize the road is from curb to curb and not just confined between those two little white lines...
Then I get a cold chill and move along. Idiots make bad drivers.
Did they ever consider that a large portion of idiots call themselves gamers?

This may be true, but only because it's usually the petrolheads that love racing games..

It's like saying skydivers are more likely to fall to their death than a normal person.
 
I've also realized that I tend to see much more gaps in the traffic after playing too much NFS. But seeing the gap doesn't mean that I have to (try and) take it! A good game is immersive, and you lose yourself in it.

I normally stop playing NFS when I find myself contemplating the sidewalk :-P

Seriously, I've never had an accident, and never back the car into anything. I suspect that prayer played a large role in that, though! There's been narrow escapes that were caused solely by my own stupidity, or that of the other driver. I don't think NFS played any role in any of those.

I see this study and would like to just rationalise it a bit and bring it back down into reality: Drivers who are likely to speed play racing games on consoles. Who else would be interested in racing games? :rolleyes:

I hit the highway after playing GT5 once. Let's just say I got to where I was going pretty quickly ;)
 
This study is a farce! Obviously petrol heads play racing games so that's the first flaw in the study,since they went out and looked for gamers that play racing games specifically.

Secondly ,gamers are obviously of a younger age range, what's the bet the non-gamers age range is much higher than the gamers.Younger people are notoriously worse drivers when compared with people of a higher age group.No **** sherlock

I can't beleive they wasted money,time and resources on a study that is so obviously flawed, who are these idiots.
 
I think it has more to do with the fact that people who play PS are more inclined to speed... not that the games MAKE gamers speed lol.

It's like conducting a study and taking 100 gay people 100 straight people and seeing which group is more inclined to be interested in rugby and soccer. And then concluding that enjoying soccer and rugby causes you to be straight :P
 
i would rather say its because PS gamers use analogs for steering and accelaration thats why they are bad drivers :P . also theres a fine line between virtual reality and reality, if you cant figure out which one you are in , then you shouldnt be playing.

i use a ferrari steering wheel with pedals and drive pretty insane on nfs shift / Grid / gtr2 , but in real life , the uno just doesnt compare lol
