Been checking out various repair options in Cape Town for the launch edition "Old Faithful" PS3 with a YLOD.

I've narrowed it down to two:

1) Console Doctor (Mark). Tried and tested, but far away which means two missions of a drive to drop off and collect. Also he says he's really busy this week.

2) Kieltec (Paul). Came across his ad through a Google search, he's based in the CBD so close-by. More expensive than console doctor but still reasonable, though I don't know of his track-record/reliability.

Would prefer, for convenience-sake, to go with option 2, but wanted to first get some references, so if anyone has used Kieltec/Paul from Cape Town CBD to repair their consoles, please speak up :)

TIA

Try Zafer 0721116871. Works out of Mutlu batteries in Belville. Awesome service & guarantees his work. Closed till 7 January, though

Don't bother -poor service

YLOD usually means 3-6 months before the problem comes back. Trust me I've had my console repaired twice after the initial YLOD

Just need the console working for long enough to play GTA 5 :)

PS, why dont you do a DIY thermal paste replacement, its really easy.

They in Cape Town close to Montague Gardens but they don't repair. They swop out your console for one with same specs.

Yeah I just used them in Durban.
I had to pay R 1600 odd for the replacement unit.
This was after CRT said the unit can't be repaired due to a faulty mainboard.

The main problem with the replacement unit is that you lose everything that was on your hdd, as it reformats the hdd if it was from another unit.

I had replaced my original 120gb hdd with a 500gb hdd that was full with only games. Backups took too long, so now I had to re-download 500gb of games I had purchased.

Sony should really make it possible to transfer your games via hdd to the same PSN user on another system.

Almost done though.
