Hey everyone

Haven't seen much mention of it here, but if any of you have a Z5 compact, please let me know if you've had technical issues. One I've heard about is the phone overheating when taking pictures / video on the highest res.

Others have said - with the Z3 compact (not sure about the z5) that there's a structural fault that can make the screen crack out of nowhere.

ANyone with issues?

Or would you recommend the phone?

No ... quite a few cracked Z series.

My own Sony Z2 self cracked

A few examples do not indicate an inherent design/manufacturing flaw. Do you really think Sony will release a product with such a flaw, or not fix a problem, running the risk of damaging its brand? The stakes are too high.

For what it's worth, my own Z3 has fallen a few times on various surfaces. The other day it fell so hard that the external protective glass cover cracked. No damage to front or back glass screens, but then I always keep it in a gel cover (protects back and sides).

Just because it didnt happen to you, doesnt mean it cant happen. I also have a Z2 that is going on 2 years now, and i have never had it in a cover, and its been through hell and back and is still in one piece.

At the same time, I have had 3 friends whose different model Xperia's have all had the exact same issue: screen just randomly develops a crack, with no external force applied to it. The glass in these things is quite tense, and does sometimes just crack. The biggest problem is that Sony refused to honor the warranty and state that it was caused by poor handling, when this wasnt the case.

With all respect, maybe Google before replying. Start with Sony self cracking Z series and Class Action lawsuit. Perhaps BBC Watchdog will also steer you in the right direction.

I'm pretty sure you'll also come across their press release pointing to the issue.

Googled "Samsung S6 class action". Lo and behold, some pages on self cracking screens not being replaced under warranty, also Apple and others with different problems. I suppose with every brand/model you get a few "unlucky" ones.

OK.

I don't want to argue - it's an urban legend then...
