Hey. So, seems as though my PC has decided to restart every 5 minutes and makes terribly sick sounding noises... And generally cant run any games, I have decided to go ahead and start an upgrade...

Trouble is, I couldnt care less about hardware, so I know nothing about what to get. Please help.

I am looking at a budget of around 3 - 3.5 K ...

I need:
CPU
Motherboard
Ram

No need for a graphics card or harddrives or PSU's at the moment. Im sorted for that.

Please help, thanks :D

Go to prophecy.co.za and get yr stuff there. U may even pull off a graphic card as well for 3.5k.

I know where to buy it. Was just wanting a few suggestions from guys who know what particular brand model is better. Because if I look at AMD vs INTEL for instance, I have no idea which to go for, and what particular models...

I can sense a Holy War about to start on this topic...

Intel all the way.

Ok how about 3gb ddr2800 = R600
Asus P5KPL = 900
E8200 = 2,000

Looking at some benchmarks... The E6850 chip looks a bit better than the E8200, for only a small price increase...

EDIT:
I see the 6850 is on the old 65nm
and the 8200 is the new 45nm chipset though...

Either is fine really. E8200 will give you better overclocking ability. E6850 tends to run hot because it's pushing the high end of 65nm. But E6850 base speed is better than e8200 despite lower cache. If you push the E8200 clock up it will outperform the e6850.

E8400
4GB DDR2-800
Foxconn G31

Or the above with the Asus P5KPL for about R3500 on the dot.
