I have ordered an iPad from FNB, iPad 3 Wifi & 3g. Please advise the best connection...there are too many options & I'm a complete idiot with things like this. I will basically use it @ home only (I currently use around 1 - 1.5gigs a month with MTN prepaid). Is wireless better / cheaper? Help!

If you are using it at home only and you have adsl then all you need is a wifi router, if you don't have a DSL then cell c has some good data bundles.

Yes, CellC or 8ta. Look at the prices on both websites. However, at home, wi-fi is infinitely cheaper. You can share a CellC or 8ta connection by using a 3G router. If you want to know more about this, just ask

No DSL & the only SP with signal is MTN here. So my only option would then be stick with MTN or get adsl? thanks for the reply

At the risk of sounding like a complete chop....can I get a router & share a neighbour's connection?

Yes, you can and I do that.

I have a wi-fi router which I use in my house, and a LAN cable between our two houses which my neighbour shares. Since the router is always connected to the network, my neighbour can use her computer any time. And of course she pays a portion of the monthly bill.

It all depends on the configuration of your house or flat in relation to your neighbour. Obviously across the street is difficult, unless you use a wi-fi router and an aerial, but in my case, the cable goes between our two houses, a distance of about 12 metres between the houses and about 30m of cable altogether.

Who is going to manage the connection to the internet, you or your neighbour? To avoid a fight about who used what in terms of bandwidth, you should both use a data monitoring program like Networx which will display what has been used by the day, week or month.

My neighbour speaks to her daughter on Skype for 10 mins twice a week, gets 5-6 emails a day and does not browse, so I do not bother about what she uses. I have a 10Gb cap and reckon she uses 1.5Gb a month, if that.

Cannot you get CellC or 8ta at your place? MTN is not very cheap when it comes to worthwhile bandwidth.
