Would need to see the exact delivery error.
Is he trying to send from within the g-mail web interface or from an e-mail client (eg Outlook) that is setup with his gmail account.

we tried both (outlook and the gmail web interface) and both give the same error, i googled it and it does seem to be a gmail issue however i can't access the webpage cos i'm blocked at work. i don't have the exact error msg but it's the one you get when you usually enter an incorrect email addy ie the following recipients cannot be reached or your mail has not been sent to the following recipients etc

I doubt it is a gmail problem. I have not heard of any issues with gmail recently (apart from some reports of some gmail accounts possibly hacked). I know my gmail is sending fine.
Again - would need to know the exact error.
When you tried it in Outlook what outgoing mail server did you use? Your ISP mailserver or g-mails pop server?

ok i'll try and get the exact error message, to answer your other questions its the gmail pop server, he doesn't use the telkom email address but i guess he's gonna be forced to now if this isn't resolved. yeah my gmail works fine as well but i did have errors last month were it wasn't sending mails so not sure whats that about. i set-up the gmail (to outlook) with him and it worked perfectly for a week then about last week sometime it just went bizerk ... the gmail interface (web) also gives the same error.

yeah i haven't tried that as yet because gmail is blocked here at work but will try that tonight, my father-in-law is on the coast and i'm up here in jhb so it's a bit of a mission trouble shooting but i think you might have hit the nail on the head with your suggestion (gmail has the same solution for mails not sending), i just overlooked it because it worked fine all this time unless the settings changed somehow ...
