Hello,
As we all know, Telkom is an Incredibly unpredictable Thieving Shark!! But due to them holding South Africa at ransom, I had to make the deal with the Devil anyway!! There are probably many people that have had a harder time with Telkom but this is my experience.
I placed an application for my ADSL line on 4 November 2006 and told them that although the new regulations state 30Day installation, I only need the line installed in the first week of January 2007. Therefore, they had +-65 days to install the line. I run an online business and told them it was for business purposes and it was imperative that the line be installed. I was told that it will not be a problem due to me applying early enough and that I should have an installation date by the 22 November. I thank them and leave.
I get a call about a week later to tell me that it is not possible for them to install the line in that first week of January and only mid or late January. I naturally tell them that is is completely unacceptible as I have given the MORE than enough time to have the line installed and that it will SERIOUSLY hurt my business without the line. Who will pay for the damages?? They then tell me they are waiting for hardware and it is only arriving in January. I asked them what hardware?? They said the rack of the DSLAM ports. I then asked them how is it possible that if my exchange is already DSL enabled how there is all of a sudden no DSLAM rack. So they tell me that there are racks but it is just FULL in the exchange.
They then said that they will see what they can do and get back to me asap. Well, of COURSE no one comes back to me. I have been waiting now for 2 weeks for a call and I have still not received one. I then called the branch and they too told me that they have arranged for a techie to call me. Again, NOTHING.
My personal opinion is that they don't want to have to install it in the first week in January because of the leave periods and there is probably noone to do the installation or noone wants to do it. What a coincidence that they can install it EXACTLY after the first week in January when everyone is back from leave. I applied 2months in advance to avoid this problem but it arises anyway!!
Any comments are welcome.
