Please explain DynDNS

Could someone please explain DynDNS.ORG?
I dont understand what it says on the website.
So, what it does, why use it, etc...

Your ADSL router updates your assigned ip address on dyndns.org.... so you can connect to it from somewhere besides home.... e.g. you'd get kris.dyndns.org... then from work you connect to kris.dyndns.org, which routes you to your home's router?

My wife works from home (iBurst) and every so often I get a call that something is not working ... very easy to log onto the router using the FQDN and sort the problem out

It works nicely with Route Sentry aswell, which if i recall correctly you are using?
I use mine to ssh tunnel a vnc connection from work to home to make sure my downloads are still running during the day!!

You can also use it to host websites mailservers etc from a dynamic IP.
