Got this response from my ISP:

Hi There Unfortunately 40 meg wont be possible as your SNR is too low. It is at 7.6 dB and anything higher and the line will be unstable or drop.


I thought a low dB value is good, or am I thinking of attenuation?

Yes you are.

At 6db your adsl will be borderline unstable. I'd recommend staying at 10Mb/s.
