Please help! best connection for wow

Hey guys

I have been living in australia for the past 3 years and been playing wow since release.

I have recently moved back to SA and need to get an internet connection sorted out. After a month and a half telkom finally installed the lines.


I understand that an unshaped account is best for wow and online gaming?>
I am currently looking at getting a 512k connection with 3gb download limit.
Any one know of a good isp with reasonable prices?
How much can i expect to pay in total per month including telkom and isp fees?

Please help!

Hey guys to a none IT person what exactly is the shaped and unshaped?

It basically means, with a shaped account, the 'non-essential' ports such as P2P and games etc are throttled (slowed down) to allow more bandwidth to areas that require it, such as web browsing & e-mail. Unshaped means there is no throttling.

Telkom uses a shaping method on standard ADSL accounts. This means that the connection is port prioritized, that is to say that certain protocols such as httpd (or web sites) are placed at the top of the list allowing for the fastest connection speeds. While other less popular ports such as game server ports are placed lower on the list.

so for online gaming an Unshaped account is best.

Thanks guys thats great, so is it fair to say that they sell shaped as a matter of course and you only get unshaped if you ask for it and pay for it
