It's so we can get attention directed to researching the environmental effects imported shrimps has on SA eco system if they were to be released in the wild. We confident they won't affect the waters as the shrimps are fickle as hell to survive even in controlled aquarium conditions. Right now they legal to have and breed, what is already in the country, but not legal to import more different colour strains.

IN a cooking thread?

I would have thought this to be in the science section or off topic?

These are not for eating are they :D

What do the colours matter, surely they are all equally delicious?

Prawns/shrimps are the garbage collection of the sea/river.

These guys are being imported for fishtanks, so colours matter.

From a scientific point of view. I suppose a shrimp is a shrimp. I can't see how it would encroach on the local shrimp if it was to be set free in our waters. I suppose it needs to be studied but from what I can understand/see it's just a shrimp with a different colours scheme :D

Basically they are too weak to live in the wild... they are hard enough to keep alive in a tank.

So very low risk there

Had 5 of these little fella's in my aquarium at home... They disappeared about a week or so later .... My main suspect is the gangsta of a feesh my son named "Socks" , the investigation is still ongoing.
