hello all...

I have, what seems to be, a strange problem.
There was a power cut in my area while connected to the net using my e220 modem on vodacom.

When the power came up again, I hooked up the modem and the problem started.
I have two flashing lights.
Windows registers a drive letter (G: ) but the Vodafone icon doesn't appear.
Clicking on G: asks to insert a disk.
The modem cannot pick up my Vodacom sim but picks up an MTN sim.
An hourglass icon continually flashes next to the mouse icon.

Has my modem died?
Or, is possible to save it

Any help would be great appreciated.

Some people here would consider that a bonus! :p

The fact that you have flashing lights and Windows seems to detect the device is a good sign, you might be able to get away with just re-flashing a dashboard upgrade.

What do you mean by this?

I was wrong there.... When I insert my vodacom sim, the modem recognises it but I cannot change to the 3g profile with your MDMA app.
With my MTN sim, I change between gprs and 3g.

The MDMA app is awesome BTW:)

Where can I get the software to reflash, any links perhaps?
I'm hoping that will work.

Thanks for the links... is the huawei modem partner, in any way, better than vmclite? apologies for the way these posts are coming out, im type from my cellphone.

its strange... in windows xp, the cd drive icon shows up but does not change to vodafone icon. i am connecting to the the net but issue has me worried.

Some guys here swear by it, I just use it to view SMS messages.

And still if you click on the 'cd drive' does it ask you to insert a disk?
Have you tried one of the dashboard upgrades yet?
Have you tried plugging it into a different PC?

flash it with huawei software. the vodafone software is an epic example of how to distribute rubbish code and make people think they're getting something useful :)

And still if you click on the 'cd drive' does it ask you to insert a disk?
Yes.... Right clicking on the drive and clicking properties shows 0 used space and 0 free space.

Looking in the details pane in "my computer", it's continously refreshing itself or changing between "CD Drive [G:] and 20071007_131019

Have you tried one of the dashboard upgrades yet?
Yes... I've upgraded using vmclite 3.2.1. Still the same:(
Would upgrading with Mobile Partner yield better results?

Have you tried plugging it into a different PC?
No, I haven't, will try that later today.

That is just weird. Do you hear the sound of a device being detected when that happens?

Once you've concluded it's your modem and not your computer, you could disable the drive letter in Windows or disable the virtual CD-ROM completely in MDMA. Of course this is just hiding the problem, but shouldn't cause any harm.

@ginggs... tell me about:D i have connected a flash drive, bluetooth dongle and mp3 player without the same issue. the little green icon pops up in the taskbar and windows make the sound associated with usb device connected to my pc... uh, how would i disable the drive letter in windows?
