Please help identify this mystery object

So the new house I moved into had a couple odds and ends left behind by the previous tenant, and one we cannot identify is in the photos below.

Anybody know what this is?

It has no text or branding on the sides of any kind, even underneath. It’s made of a metal box at the base and an open glass top.

It looks like something flammable might go into the base, so I’m thinking it might be some kind of little indoor miniature fire, and the metal thing is designed to extinguish it from the top?
