After 2 months of waiting I finally got my phoneline and ADSL installed the begining of this month. It was sweet. 1 general account and another unshaped account for gaming. (Both webafrica accounts... who are awesome I might add IMHO). Everything was sweet until yesterday. They cut off my line. Fine... this was the ol' enevitable "cut you because we give you R600 credit but your initial costs will be way over that". It's not like I didnt want to pay. They way things work, someone provides a service you want that service. You pay them whatever the cost assuming you want it badly enough. I would gladly have payed if they sent me the invoice as they explicitly said they would.

I called accounts. There was some confusion. My account number had no services registered on my name. There services on my name had the status "pending". Meaning I had been using services that did not exist in Telkom's database.

So why did I have access in the first place and why now had it been cut off? Apparently there was a business regestered on the phone number i was given. This was thier mistake not mine. I specifically remember ticking the home user box. So...without any warning... my line had been cancelled. I was told to call this number 10219... they will be able to help me out.

Unbeknownst to me, this was the "new service" number. I called. The same story was given. Business. Cancel. Re-Apply, with a new addition to the story... nearest Telkom Office. They were about to do the final "Thank You for calling Telkom.... etc" This is when I lost it. Ask anyone that knows me... it takes me really long to get as angry as i did... 2 months to be exact. 2 more months of waiting. Logically it follows that if my line can be cancelled in a day it can be fixed in a day. This is when I blacked out. I don't know what was said.... but within 15 seconds of hanging up the phone, someone (sounded like the same woman) from Telkom called me back to say that the person I spoke to is pressing charges.

I am now lineless. ADSL-less with no idea of where to go... the only positive thing out of this is the courtcase. I look forward to it... if it is indeed not an idle threat.

Any Ideas on where to next...? I really cant go through the entire application process again... it might kill me.

Firstly, sit back and relax. You are getting way to upset over ADSL. I understand telkom is really vexing, but still.

Since the ADSL has been installed already, canceling your business account and ordering a residential account will be fast. Just make sure that they understand that everything is already installed. What normally takes long is waiting for the technicians to come and install it. You dont have to go through that again

Wow they want to throw a case for that?

My first job while studying in the UK was working at PC service Call, it was for all HP/Advent/Packard Bell Machines Support for Dixons Group. My Job was to basically troubleshoot and repair the problem over the phone and if not able to send an engineer out.

Of course i did get very abusive calls, which was never my fault. From simple ones to a guy being angry he could not copy 600mb on a 1.44 Floppy. To really abusive ones, where i could not send an engineer out for a software issue...he threatend to shoot his kids!! For even that i could not charge....but the Team leader did phone up his local Pc World Shop, to just be ready with cops incase this guy walks in there like a raging bull. No where in my call center training did i ever learn i could press charges on abusive customers over phone,

I always had to Calm down ----> Calm customer --- > Resolve Problem. Or if to pont of customer not listening...Terminate the call. Then again i dunno the laws here for that kind of thing but as i clearly remember i could have never charged a customer for seriously abusive calls..and i REALLY did get em.
At the end...it was the Customer is always right.

Again, thats my experience in UK about this, As for DSL application, i am not sure, but there must be an easier way. Keep me updated!

Ye, I really don't know of any law that prevents you from speaking to someone in a certain way.

Good luck to Telkom if they indeed do plan to press charges. I think the police will laugh at them, and then they'll get a taste of what it feels like to ask for help and be ignored.

I suspect JStrike is right ... since the line is installed, re-connection should be quick, assuming you act quickly and ensure that the DSLAM port does not get assigned to someone else.

DVDA : There are laws preventing people from verbally abusing you

Try give this lady a call. She helped me out with my ADSL Installation.

Peetro: 012 680 6112

Swear, scream, shout, kick, moer... I dont care... Telkom need to get their heads out their cracks.

I feel your pain.

AFAIK, only if that abuse is racially (and *maybe* sexually) oriented, and even then, only in certain situations (like sexual abuse in the workplace can be verbal). I'd be interested in reading anything that you can point me at though.

I can't see how swearing at a call center person can be a prosecutable offense. If it was, I'm sure he could countersue for Telkom causing the mental anguish that caused the situation in the first place :)

hehehe... thanks for the support guys. I have calmed down. Its good to know that there are people that understand. much appreciated. :)
