Please help me choose a 7" tablet

Did you actually check the links? The OP linked to a tablet that has better viewing angles, better screen res, better everything for R1599, you then come along and recommend the MSI which is crap? I recently got the Novo Crystal on the Mybb special, and that is actually surprisingly good, really fast, PPI not that shabby etc... Their price was R1699 not on special, so rather check the links OP sent before recommending something.

The Nexus 7 is $200 for entry level - surely you can get it for less than R3000.

Anyway there are better options of the Ainol variety still. I'm just saying there were issues with the batch I saw from my friend - not just 'it's cheap and so that's what you get' type issues - build quality and firmware problems that never got resolved.

I'm not going to recommend something that I've never used, but having said that you are right about that tablet in the OP's post. It does look damn good spec wise, and I'm guessing it's fairly new? Very nice screen specs! IPS panel for R1600 is pretty damn awesome. Just checked out their A76 model, which is more in line with the specs for the Windpad and is a lot cheaper. Seriously, their specs look almost too good to be true.

The cheapest Nexus 7 I can find is R2900.

Yeah. It's possible your buddy got one from a bad batch. My friend and I both got our MSI's through work in December and they're ticking along quite nicely.

There's some weird pricing going on at GreenOnion. One of their products says excluding vat (http://www.greenonion.co.za/shop/onion-w/), but the rest don't so it might be that all their prices are excluding vat? I can't confirm that though.

Thanks for all the replies :

From the replies I take it the Onion is a much better option than the Samsung.

The one other I might consider is the Ainol Crystal but my first choice is still the Onion - it would bring one less tear to my eye if it was slightly cheaper but that's what happens if you cut an onion :D
