Please help me remove ink marks from photo

Ok, i got a baby photo of a family member that i want to fix a little bit.

Its in black and white and is rather old. The problem is that it has a stamp on the photo that says 'proof' - and i would like to know how to get rid of this. The proof word is over the top of the dress that she is wearing.

I want to fix it so that i can get some copies done.

Not sure where to start, but if someone could please give me suggestions as to how to cover up/rub out the proof word.

I've got a few basic editing programs, i'm sure one of them should be able to do it.

Any pointers?

Photoshop with the clone tool I think.

Without seeing exactly what it looks like its hard to say but I'd probably start off using photoshop's clone stamp and/or heal tools.
