Please help me understand the patches

Hey,

I recently bought Wow and Burning crusade, thought I would try it out only to find there's many gig's worth of updates. I have managed to download it from an local site but when I unzipped the patch all it had in was "Installer Tome 2.mpq"

On another site I read to place it :

"C:\Users\Public\Documents\Blizzard Entertainment\World of Warcraft\Updates\WoW-2.4.3-to-3.0.1-TBC-EU-Update"

Or

"C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Updates\WoW-2.4.3-to-3.0.1-TBC-EU-Update"

Neither of these seem to do anything. Everytime I try to run the game it tries to download the patches all over again.

And please don't suggest buying the new expansion, I've spent enough money on something I'm not sure I will enjoy.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

dude it looks like the game is trying to dlaod the patch again but its just checking if the patch is dlaoded, wat u can do to put ure mind at rest is unplug ure router so u know u not connected u'll see it do the same thing and then wen its done start to install hope this helps

Which OS are you using? You have to place the files depending on which OS you are using. For XP, you need to put it the folder where you installed WoW, which is by default in "C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft". I also noticed that some of the big patches gets downloaded to the "Updates" subfolder, while others gets downloaded to the "Patches" subfolder. The small patches gets installed to the WoW root folder.

For Vista, the patches has to be put in the Users folder, just like the first folder in your post. I'm not exactly sure on this, since I use XP. A friend of mine uses Vista and his patches does get downloaded to a different folder.

When the downloader starts, the file is checked first. It appears exactly the same as downloading, except that it faster. As soon as it reached the point where the download was halted, it will continue downloading from there. If the whole file is there, then the patch will be applied.

If you can't find the folder where the file needs to be downloaded, start the downloader and download a small amount of the file. Then just search the file. The filename would be the same as the patch, but with a .part added to the end.

Best thing to do is to just ask on these forums for someone nearby to drop the game onto a mobile. What area are you in?
