Hi bud. I'm not a boffin. But I can tell you that your line isn't in bad shape. Might be another issue? Likely distance. I only see noise margin and not attenuation. But the higher the dB reading on the two bottom numbers the healthier your line is. Anything above 10dB is good and stable. Anything over 20 is very good. But that's also due to the fact you are also only on 2meg sync. Your dB reading drops the higher your line speed. Hope this helps. Cheers.
nemo415, thank you for your input.
I originally had a 2meg line which was going at 2.4 which had me happy. Then it degraded to 1.4meg and telkom didnt commit to anything.
I upgraded to 4meg and it worked like a bomb for a week or so then it went to 3,4 then now the speed it is.
Sadly i am at work and cannot get my router stats
I vaguely understand the numbers, however, how can the ISP say my line is fine when it isnt. Sigh
Fastpath?Welcome to the wonderful world of ASSIA. Telkom network has kicked you off Fastpath.
Whoever manages your line just needs to change your profile to 4meg, not rocket science.
I can tell you who manages my line, its axxess, they say its syncing correctly, I am on 4meg but if you look at the pic, !!!!!
Are you a stirrer or actually wanting to help. I think a troll.Hi Grandmaster Defib. Sorry, but I don’t understand what you are trying to say.
You say: “I pay for 4megs yet i see only 2.5megs”
Then you say: “… it went to 3,4 then now the speed it is.”
So, what is your speed? Is it 2,5 mbps or is it 3,4 mbps? Please run the Ookla speedtest. http://www.speedtest.net/
If your speed is 3,4 mbps then it is perfectly normal. If the length of your copper wire to the exchange is less than 2 km, the actual speed of a 4 mbps ADSL line is 3,4 mbps according to the experts on this group. That’s normal.
The way I understand it, your ADSL speed is affected by 3 things
1)Protocol overheads 15% – 20%. That alone brings my speed down from 4 mbps to 3,4 mbps.
2)Distance from the exchange. Further than 2 km is not good.
3)The thickness and quality of the copper wire.
If your actual speed is 2,5 mbps (not 3,4 mbps) then I estimate that you are 3½ km from the exchange and your downstream line attenuation is 50 dB. Nobody can tell unless you provide the DSL information of your router. You can’t, you say: “Sadly i am at work and cannot get my router stats.” WTF? Are you always at work, and never go home? Hehe.
Aren't axxess meant to do that considering I pay them to manage my linr
