Good day to all im in desperate need of dsl i have ordered it from telkom on the 30th of Jan and im still waiting. Looks like i am going to wait for 6 months.

If there is anyone who works for telkom that can speed this process up i am willing to pay for the service.

Any info will be helpfull.

Thank you.

ask them if wimax is aviable for your area..since you cant get adsl and have to wait for such long period for it..

What is wimax? i did consider wireless like i burst or hsdpa unfortunatly in my area meyersdal alberton the signal strenght is very weak.

I wasn't going to reply to this, but when you mentioned your area I just had to.

On which side of Meyersdal are you? In other words, what landmark do you stay near to? Virgin, Eco Estate, Brackenhurst?

I am now quickly approaching my 2 year anniversary since I ordered. Yes, 2 years, I ordered on the 6th of March 2006 and I still have nothing. Apparently they are comming to install tomorrow but I have heard that too many times to care anymore.

With the wonderfully scenic hills in Meyersdal you will basically find yourself in a dead spot for wireless connections. Don't bother with iBurst unless your on the Bassonia side of Meyersdal(past the Steers down Michelle avenue towards The Glen). Not much of Meyersdal currently falls within any WiMax coverage so that is of little hope as well.

Out of pure desperation I purchased a Poynting antennae to boost the 3G signal on my mobile phone. This works most of the time and you have a speedy if not stable connection, but when the weather comes in your stuck with GPRS.

I think a lot of people are going to be in for suprises though :) If you look at the amount of office complexes that are being built with agreements already signed someone is going to have a lot of explaining to do with regards to telephones. I know that on the Eco Estate side they are building about 40 000m2 in office space but the residents there can't even get telephones installed because Telkom says there are no lines available. That is going to result in a lot of companies getting very upset because nobody can contact them :)

did you by any chance ordered it via their website?

I ordered mine via the website on the Thursday, enquired the following Tuesday only to be told that there is no record of an application. I reapplied over the phone and it was ready for self install the following day.

Arzy i live on the corner of palamino where the old action cricket was its now a church.

Goobie i ordered via internet phoned them 2 weeks later no record of my application. Then ordered it via telephone. I then heard there is not enough ports on the exchange or something like that and i must call them back end of may because then they will start working on that.

The problem is i need the damn dsl for work its urgent and now i cant get it what a stuff up :(

I use my phone the lack of 3G makes it so slow its not even wothwile to use that.

Im sure sumone has a uncle in telkom that can sort me out for a fee lol :)

Ok, I know exactly where that is, you may want to consider asking iBurst to come and do a test there relating to signal strength, remind them to bring and external antennae along as well though. For the time being it could be your best bet unless you want to get a new mobile phone.

The ports on the exchange is the standard excuse they are currently using for the area. In all honestly I think they just didn't anticipate the amount of development in the area and just didn't expand their infrastructure to accomodate this. That's why I say there are going to be a lot of unhappy people and companies who aren't going to be able to get anything once they move into their new offices :) I'm hoping that this sudden upsurge in demand will get Telkom to do something.

As to what you can do, as I said, I've been waiting close on 2 years now and I am just down the road from you. During January I wrote letters to everyone I could possibly think of who was in some positioin of authority at Telkom explaining my frustration. I just got a call now again confirming that my line will be installed tomorrow, but as I said earlier I'm not holding my breath on this.

Your best bet currently would be to hope that the developers finish the office complexes soon and that we can get some companies complaining that there aren't lines available.
