A few weeks ago I imported a Motorola Backflip. It's an awesome phone, but I can't get sms to work. I can receive sms, send and receive mms, but cannot send sms.

I'm able to send sms over the Chomp and FishText network though, but seeing as I am on Virgin I would rather not pay to send sms when I get them for free.

The phone is loaded with SingTel firmware (Singapore phone) would changing the firmware have any effect on this?

I've posted on the Motorola forums about this and no one was able to help me, so now I'm hoping maybe someone in SA will be able to help me that has had the same problem.

P.S Android is the most amazing phone OS. I'm stuck on version 1.5, but man even that is impressive.

The fact that you're using a branded phone from another country is almost certainly your problem. The best thing for you to do would be to root and flash to an unbranded version of Android. That'll probably solve your problems :)

lol...Flashing it worked...My gosh, I can't believe I've sat with this problem for so long and that's all it took...I asked a bunch of people if flashing it would work and no one ever replied to it.

Thank you so much! I owe you one.
