I finally upgraded my old P4 to a new quad core desktop. But to avoid having to install all my software updates, etc. etc., I simply had the old harddrive cloned, and the computer shop ran the repair so that my XP Home SP3 operating system would function properly.

And when I got home yesterday, it did. Until I plugged in my MTN E220 modem, and it wouldn't recognise it at all. I phoned the store, who advised me to use my original XP CD to run a repair. Which I did, except it returned the entire operating system to SP1...

But, it did now recognise the modem and pick up a signal.

BUT, it does not want to connect to the internet. Not on 3G, and not on Edge. (error 720)

So this afternoon, I updated the firmware on the modem (using my old computer, which fortunately still works) and tried again, to no avail. I uninstalled all traces of the E220 (software and modem) from the new computer and then re-installed, but it still doesn't want to connect. By the time I gave up, it didn't pick up a 3G signal either, even though it works perfectly on the old machine.

I've now uninstalled it from the new PC, and I"m busy downloading a copy of XP SP3 so that I can at least fix that on the new machine...

Any suggestions to get the modem to work on the new computer with the cloned harddrive...?

Rule no. 1: Don't ever use the repair function on a pc that's hardware has changed, you're only playing with Microsoft fire

Rule no. 2: Install Win 7 and take advantage of ur quad core!!!!

Just backup your stuff from your old PC and completely format your new one like a normal person. Actually is quite easy.

A clean install is always better for major hardware changes!
