Hey all, I recently tried Telkom unshaped and shaped and turfed them because of lame speeds and generally poor performance. I just switched to Verizon because of really great performance previously using them. Nothing has improved, however, except that I am getting less lag...
My modem details are as follows:

Speed Down: 4096 kbps
Speed Up: 384 kbps
Attenuation down: 27db
Attenuation up: 7.5db
Noise margin down: 13db
Noise margin up: 17db

Local Speed tests (iburst, sentech, gamco) indicate max of 400kbps download and 300kbps upload...

What could be wrong?

I used to always get good speeds on this line... almost 4Mbps local and 1Mbps international downloads...

Speed tests are generally useless. Most are crappy, overloaded servers designed to market products to hapless visitors. Often the results say more about the server than it does about your connection.

Use a multithreaded download manager, download some files locally and internationally. If you are still not getting good speeds, then maybe you do have a problem.

I get the same download and upload speeds on my 4096kbps line..... I have no freaking idea what to do or where to go?

Lol - no theloot, it's 4 meg ADSL is what he's saying... he gets the same as me... pathetic hey? As for Asymetrical, my download looks pretty much like my upload at the moment!
Sucks!

My question is, am I not wasting money? Should I not opt for 512Mb? Since my speed doesn't seem to go much higher?

Isn't the price difference something like R80? Why downgrade? Things should improve, just be patient ;)

Lol, take it from me, at least you don't get disconnected at least 4 times a week like me, and I'm on 512.

I have to say that I also seem to get the same kind of thing where international downloads are patchy (ie some get good speed and some don't) but its never a problem when it comes to local.

EDIT: What's irrittating is that it seems to limit each thread to about 512k on some sites
