Please help! PPPoe connections on billion router

Sorry if I am posting to the wrong place, but I couldn't find a simalar thread and I need help fast (I am new to this forum).

We have moved to an estate where there is no Telkom and I have been forced to use Smart Village. I'm not a fan of Telkom, but I previously had ADSL and everything that I needed worked fine.

I am using the free Billion wifi router as supplied by Telkom with dynamic dns and a vpn. Could connect multiple PC's to the internet and my other network (through the vpn).

Smart Village have given me a username, password and service name. With their cat5 cable plugged into the billion router, I can at any stage connect (one pc at a time) with the windows vista/7 PPPoe software.

I have tried playing around with the settings on the router, but I cannot get it to connect, therefore I cannot setup the dynamic dns and vpn working. I also cannot connect with my iPhone as I cannot find PPPoe settings on it.

Is it not possible to have the router make the connection and then set all my devices' gateway and default dns to the IP of the router, with the vpn working, and have all my devices/pc's connected at the same time?

I highly doubt that the Billion ADSL modem/router can dial PPPoE connections via a LAN port.

Could you perhaps post the exact model number of the ADSL modem?

In your case it might be best if you just buy a broadband router with DD-WRT firmware support, like the TP-Link WR1043ND or TP-Link WR841ND

An ADSL router will not work in this environment. You will need to get a router that will be able to dial PPPOE through ethernet and not DSL.

Some ADSL modems would allow you to dial the PPPoE connection via the Ethernet ports, but to do that you'll have to use their terminal (command-line) interface.

Hi guys, many thanks for the help!
I should of realised that the billion wouldn't work as it only had lan ports and no wan port.
I have an old buffalo airport router that allows PPPoe connections through the use of its wan port, but smart village require you to use "Smart Village" as a service name. The only problem is that the buffalo airport won't allow me to enter a space between smart and village. It's an old router and there is no new firmware available for it. Will it work if I enter SmartVillage as the service name (without the space)?

Install Firebug for your web browser (Firefox) or use Chrome's inspect element, and then force that space into the text field

I highly doubt that it would work when you use SmartVillage as the service name, instead of "Smart Village"

Many thanks for your help, but when I got home I just left service name blank and it connected straight away!

All devices connected, yeah!

Just need to fiddle with the VPN this weekend.
