I recently bought a D-Link 4 PORT 10/100 Broadband Router thinking...well its a broadband router like any other, plug in the adsl line, plug in the PC's via ethernet and presto! (Here is linky to router ... http://www.digitalplanet.co.za/shop/product.asp?StockID=87658 )

But no, it has 4 ethernet ports for computers (hub) and another ETHERNET port for the dsl connection.

Ok, so I read the manual and it says you connect your ADSL MODEM via ethernet to the router and then the d-link router shares your connection to all other PC's via LAN. (I'm guessing its easier than sharing your internet connection in windows)

Do any of you know where I can get an ADSL modem with an RJ-45 ethernet connection in order to get this thing working?!

Thanks

Thanks for the response.

Thing is I can't afford another R450 for a router (I should've bought one of the Billion ones in the first place)

I managed to get a crappy Telkom Marconi DSL Modem from a friend. If I connect the USB modem to my PC, and connect my PC to the router via the LAN or WAN link can I still share the connection?

I take it you're friend gave you the Premium Combo Router?

Easiest just to connect your pc via ethernet cable into either of the 4 ports and then connect the others as well, eliminates having to install drivers and what not and having hassles.

Just configure the router then with your credentials and you should be okay, all the pc's connected via cable or wireless should be able to access one another and have internet access, provided everything has been configured correctly.

It's quite straight forward.

Nope its not a router but the ADSL modem. I got the modem and the net running on one machine.

The machine with the modem and the one without are networked correctly.

The machine without the modem can see the machine with the modem as a gateway...it says gatewayt in network properties and it says connected but I still can't access the net from the second machine.

Why is Windows Internet Sharing SOOOOO hard!

You have to:
Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection. (Internet Connection, Properties, Advanced)
