Hi all

Which smtp server can I use for a TELKOM - SAIX Diginet line. Neither smtp.saix.net nor smtp.telkomsa.net works???

Thanks

I would give them to you but unfortunately removed them from the forwarding list. Mweb also uses Telkom's diginet lines and to get through to Mweb's support is a lot quicker then Telkom's.

I'm not understanding the question. Diginet is a point to point connection connecting 2 networks. You will have a router on each end doing the connection.

SMTP is a mail protocol and it should quite happily propagate across the Diginet connection so the problem is not Diginet, but rather the 2 networks.

You will need to find out what SMTP servers are available on the remote network, whether they allow relaying and then set things up accordingly.

Perhaps if you posted more details of what it is that you are attempting, it would help to get a better answer.

@Amida - Makes sense - Thanks

@bekdik - In our case the diginet line terminates at SAIX (it is therefore an internet connection diginet line) that we now want to utilize for outgoing mail only. For various reasons I want to relay through a local smtp server but neither SAIX nor Telkom is permitting that, which I don't understand since it is a line between Telkom and SAIX!

looks like they are not allowing you to relay through their server.

Have you set up your smtp server to use smtp.saix.net as a smart host? Note with the Diginet connection, you may need to authenticate to the smtp server.

I'm relaying via a Leased Line. But my Service provider is Mweb who is reselling Telkom's Leased Lines.

Maybe give them a try the Service is very good the few time the Leased Line went down Mweb phoned me and told me it's gone down before I even noticed it. They also got it up quickly again

Then I suggest you use mweb's smtp server, not saix's, for relay. If it doesn't work, give them a call for help in setting it up.

I will try authentication...now just to find a username and password!

Also I see smtp.mweb.co.za resolves to smtp.saix.net anyway...

Prox, you have to call Telkom/SAIX and they will add your IP range to be allowed thru their smtp servers. They don't set this up by default with Diginet services until its requested.

Thanks racer -- now just to explain this to someone at Telkom/SAIX call centre.....good luck to me

SAIX added the IP to allow relay and its now working :D

I must say I was pleasantly surprised with their good service. Thanks for everyone's help ;)

Will check tomorrow - in Cape Town if I remember correctly. The easiest though would be to login (http://www.isp.telkom-ipnet.co.za/) and log a new fault/query pertaining to your circuit. I should have done this instead of phoning as they merely logged this query: Circuit number 64*******.Customer needs the following ip address to be allowed access to use Saix smtp server.ip address is 196.*.*.* The query was then assigned to TIER 2 DNS and sorted out.
