PLEASE HELP!!! Technical Support does not want to repair broken phone

I need assistance if i am right or wrong in this instance.

Ok, i've got a Samsung Galaxy Note. Bought the phone on a 2 year contract with MTN whithout any insurance. The other day i dropped the phone and crack the front lcd screen. The phone still works fine, but with a cracked screen. 2 weeks ago i charged my phone, but noticed the battery indicator comes up, but the green bard that normally indicates if the phone is charging does nothing. when i put on the phone it does come up with the screen the says, Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 and then freezes on that screens.

To make a long story short, i booked the phone in with MTN and told the guy that i book it in for the phone not charging and not for the broken screen. I did ask him afterwards to also ask them for a quote to repair the cracked lcd screen. I phoned today to follow up on the status of the phone and this lady told me that the motherboard is totally f@#$ck. She says that because the screen is cracked, they cannot open the phone to get to the the dead motherboard. I told her that its not my problem how they fix it, but they have to fix it. I don't mind getting a working phone back that is still cracked. She keeps on saying that they cannot repair the phone and that i have to pay the R1900 to replace the crack screen and to fix or replace the motherboard.

I just want to know if its my problem or theirs or can they repair it without breaking the lcd further. I mean come on. The lcd is attached to the digitizer which is 1 unit that can be removed at the same time. Can this be done or not. Do i need to pay this money or is MTN just taking me for a ride to pay the money.

Swap positions with MTN, would you repair a phone knowing that there is a good chance the screen might not come on after replacing the motherboard?
 
I think you need to accept the fact that you're pretty much fscked at this stage. Sorry about that
 
Would not touch,likelihood to make it worse for no real gain,or buy a replacement screen and absolve that risk

So what other options do i have then. Spending basically 2K is almost the worth of the phone anyway. I need to somehow find a way to get MTN to give me another phone. I know its a very long shot, but i have to try other avenues first.

Maybe buy the lcd/digitizer assembly from your own source and then send the phone in for the mobo repair along with it?
 
You don't want to touch those...it'll void the warranty...
Just bring those over to the service center.

Basically you broke the phone, and don't have insurance. Your choices are to fix it at your own expense or to replace it. If I were you, I'd use an old second hand phone until the contract is up for renewal. I've done this once before when I broke my phone. It sucks, but that's life.
 
How long have you had the phone? If less than a year, take it to Samsung and see what they charge/suggest? (Assuming it has a one year warranty.)
 
Every time I dropped my first Note I used to worry about my floor tiles, not the phone. Must have been a hell of a drop.

Also, I think if they replace the motherboard it's going to be expensive as hell.

I think he was trying to get the motherboard swapped under warranty.
 
If they can tell you the motherboard is fried, then they have already opened it up to the point where they can replace it ( If it is built anything like the Galaxy S/S2/S3 )

They might be trying to swindle you, as replacing the motherboard on those phones is as easy as 8 screws and 2-3 cables. ( Unless the crack extends through the metal assembly )

Good luck getting it sorted!

Experience: Opened up and replaced parts on all the above phones, never a note though

Don't want to make you more depressed, but you're paying "school fees" now.

Pay the insurance and insure your phone, then cancel the insurance once the two years are up.

Or, if you feel that's money wasted, like I do, take out another contract for the money you would have spend on insurance, and use that phone when your primary phone is damaged. After two years, you have an extra phone that you can keep or sell.
 
Try repair it yourself then, repair shop wouldn't repair my S2's charging port even though I was willing to pay for it because I had a custom ROM, So I watched a youtube repair video, ordered the parts from phonextreme and fixed it myself. The note should be very similar to the S2 meaning it would be easy to repair. Do some research on Note repair guides and then if it looks doable then do it yourself, will work out cheaper as well

Well the 2k would basically be paying for a new SG Note actually sine they need to replace the mboard and the front LCD screen. They might as well give me a bloody new phone as its basically almost all the major parts instead of building a refurbished unit. Might as well fork out the money as the contract got more then a year to go.

I dropped my HTC Desire HD when the phone was only four months old.

Had to use my old iPhone 3G for a year and a half before I could get my Galaxy S2.
