I got a phone not rooted, a samsung.

I am trying to setup / configure adblock plus.

It ask for a "proxy name", proxy port is 2020,
and "bypass proxy for".

I cannot save this settings as save stays grey.

I never knew this existed. Downloading as I speak, will give feedback if possible.

Best way to get rid of ads is to buy your apps. Otherwise you're just a pirate.

Its called adblock plus.
But not on the play store anymore.
I did find it here on Mybroadband in a forum. That is the link to download it.

Well, this is stupid. I got it running, don't see any settings for proxy etc, but I tested it and ads still appear. Checked back at the app and it says "Ads are blocked on WiFi connection". Whats the use of the app then? Also, another app that needs to constantly run in the background, show an annoying icon (that you can hide but it's still there), and munch on my 6h average battery life...

So did you get the settings right, that I struggle with.

After installation:

Open Adblock Plus in Applications or whatever launcher location.
Then follow the link to Settings/Wifi and long press your connected wifi name. Choose "Modify network config".
Move down to "Proxy settings" and change it to Manual.
Under "Proxy hostname" enter localhost and "Proxy port" 2020.
"Save" will be available after Proxy port entered.

DroidWall FTW...

+1

Many others:

- Pdroid (and its variants), needs the library installed (usually on custom roms)
- AFWall+ (Android Firewall +)
- LBE Security Master (English only available in Lite version, translated Full app available)
- List goes on...

NOTE: Root required
