I bought this ECS G31T-M7 board http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Pr...x?DetailID=897&CategoryID=1&MenuID=16&LanID=9
and i did fit the old cpu from my previous ECS 662 1066T-M2 http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Pr...ilID=720&DetailName=Feature&MenuID=24&LanID=0
which is a 3.0 GHz single core SL9CB (Intel Pentium 4 531 cpu, but it don't post and gives
"no signal" error. If this is a cpu problem then which cpu must i get to get this board working?
Please, i don't know much about cpu's and i would like to know how to identify a problem like this.
Thx.

My old CPU is a 3.0 GHz single core SL9CB Intel Pentium 4 531

It will work with practically any socket 775 CPU. Single core, dual core and quad core.

It seems like that motherboard doesn't support FSB 800/533, and that P4 chip requires 800MHz FSB and stretching it to 1067 is too far.

Update: I hope for your sake that you have DDR2 800 or DDR2 667 and not DDR2 533!

So Core 2 Duo should be the better option, regarding the ram it's 2 identical DDR2 512mb ram Hynix 512MB 1R×8 PC2-4200U-444-12. Is this 444 the size that is smaller than DDR2 800 or DDR2 667 and DDR2 533?

Eish, you might have a problem with those as well.

PC4200 = DDR2 533MHz !

If you go for C2D E6xxx/7xxx/8xxx, then I would suggest that you get 2x 1GB or 2x 2GB DDR2 800MHz.
If you've survived with 1GB, then 2GB should suffice.

Huge problem now regarding funds for this upgrade Pada, and thx again for showing me the way.

Did your old motherboard die on you or why did you buy a new one?

You might even be able to get an old motherboard for free (2nd-hand ofc) that would take your DDR2 533 + P4 CPU...
I mean, I have my brother's old P4 (socket 478) with 1.5GB DDR 400 just lying here in my room, and my AMD 2400+ with 1GB RAM is in my office's roof which drives our LCD TV :)

Next time round, make sure of the specifications before buying it. Generally it's a good idea to ask here, even if you're fairly certain that the components would match...
This however was the first time that I've seen a Socket 775 motherboard that can't handle a low-end Socket 775 CPU! I would've been fooled by this too.

I did check the specs Pada, but cos my lack of knowledge regarding cpu's i made a big mistake.
I am working now from my 2nd pc (ECS 848P-A7 with 1gig ram and a 2.8GHz cpu) and the reason why i want to upgrade my main PC mobo is for the need of 4 Sata ports which is going to cost me now.
