i tried to instal a second hard drive to my pc last night which didnt work...then i put everything back how it was (with the original hard drive as primary again) and now my drive doesnt pick up !!!!! i've tried swapping the ribbon cables and power supply and all of that but still my pc doesnt pick up my hard drive ...im not sure if its the hard drive itself( because its doesnt make a sound and doesnt look as if its working) or the pc ...please help any suggestions ??? dont think its the cables or power supply cos my other hard drive picks up fine ...so think its my hard drive itself ... what can i do ....
nope didnt do anything to it...didnt even touch the settings cos the hard drive i was trying to instal didnt fit as a secondary (connection point didnt fit) drive, so i took it out and put it back the way it was...now it asking to boot from cd ...and doesnt pick up the drive at all...even tried using the cd rom cables (that worked but after i restarted it again it stopped) back to square one again
@bcm ...no it doesnt ...tried the auto detect feature but still doesnt pick up ...jumpers settings should still be fine cos i didnt touch them ....what should it be if i need to double check ? its a ide 40 gig drive
@sharkbait ..no i double checked that ..seems to be fine nothing loose as well...
@capesharks ...yes for sure cos when i try the other drive it picks up ...so im sure it does have power going to it ...just to be sure i tried all the cables and different power plug-ins and all dont pick it up so dont think it could be a power fault...the thing is i dont understand why it isnt working cos i didnt change any settings on cmos/bios so putting it back the way it was should have worked perfectly....maybe something on the drive blew when i tried putting it as a secondary one ...
i have a techie charging me R290 for an hours work to sort it out...is there anything else i could try before i take it to him ? im sure its something small that im overlooking
yeah i tried that...its not spinning ....so that means its either the power or the drive itself or maybe the connectors ...like i said the other drive works so dont think its the connectors or power ...will double check the pins again on the drive ..i think i somehow managed to blow the damn thing ..not sure how though ...
this was the original drive that was on the pc so yeah it was working fine until i tried to instal a second drive...when that didnt work i then tried installing the new drive as the primary and the old (current drive) as the secondary...that didnt work either so i then put everything back the way it was with the original drive back the way it was but it didnt work (stopped picking up) so now i dont know what happend...didnt change any of the settings either
