PLEASE HELP!!!!!

I need help please. 1 of the PC's in the office has been giving trouble after the lady installed a vista tweak to XP Pro, then the DVD rom stopped showing up and didn't read disks anymore, but didn't show in the my computer either..someone told me to reinstall windows over the old one, so I did, now when I want to access the old files it says access is denied. How do I get that info back?
