Hi.

I am using a Telkom adsl router port. 2 x PC's Windows XP. Only one PC can go on internet.
Everytime I try to install Realtek 8139 Family PCI fast ethernet NIC driver on other PC , it says code10 - can not start
I can not see a local area connection icon in the network connections?

Please help.
Thanks

The lan connection is on the board of my pc, so I can not take it out to reinstall. On my one pc the modem shows as "REALTEK RTL 8139 PCI FAST ETHERNET NIC" but I do not get the drivers for this. I only get 8139/810 etc.
Also my pc do not see the modem when I start it up.

Thanks

Check the CMOS/BIOS settings

You mean your two PCs are almost identical, if so, you can check the CMOS/BIOS settings to see if the NIC has been turned on.

Pls be careful when you check your COMS/BIOS settings, make sure never change any settings you couldn't understand

XP has built-in drivers for the 8139. It's probably a driver installation issue, try the following:

Remove all network cards from device manager (right-click My Computer, Properties, Hardware, Device manager). Also remove anything with a question mark or exclamation mark. Do not restart the machine if it asks you to.

Start, Run, type "cmd" and press enter. Type the following commands:
Code:
cd \windows\inf
md \inftmp
move oem*.* \inftmp
exit
Restart the PC.

HOW DO i GET TO THE CMOS/BIOS SETUP?

If you don't know how to get into the CMOS/BIOS setup, you'd better leave that one alone, I don't want you to damage your system ;)

But if you dare to try, hit the Del key or F2 or F10 when system boot up before you see any windows info.

I have done that and all the lan settings are enabled.
I still think that it is the drivers. I can not find this driver on the internet.
"REALTEK RTL8139 FAMILY PCI FAST ETHERNET NIC"
The closest is the rtl8139/810

any Resources conflict?

Right click the My Computer Icon on desktop or from Start, then choose Manage, Device Manager, you will see your NIC marked with yellow question mark, right click then properties, on Resources tab check there is any Resources conflict, if yes, try to adjust manually

Good luck!

no yellow exclamation marks on anything.
Under network adapters I can see the 1394 net adapter and the ethernet controller but no REALTEK . I have even tried to install another LAN card on my pc, and even then the PC still does not see the REALTEK through that card.

Possibly an Id 10 T error?
Only kidding ping pong but please let us know what the problem was. You were helped by helpful members and now you can possibly help another user with the same problem by documenting it in this forum.

This is the nature of this forum and we should all try to uphold it whenever possible.

There is no such thing as a stupid question or answer. Ask a stupid question and look like an idiot for a couple of minutes, dont ask and stay an idiot.....
