Hi guys

i'm new at ubuntu, i've just installed 10.04 on my dell inspiron 1501, but i've been having problems with the wireless adapter, its not working, i've been through forum after forum and finally managed to download drivers and ndiswrapper, ran everything as they said but now i'm stuck.

sudo modprobe ndiswrapper - when i run that, i get a /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist error

what to do from here on to get my wireless working?

Please help

Well all the forums that i;ve been through state that the drivers included with ubuntu don't work, which is true, i can't even switch my wifi on and off, the wifi light just stays green and thats it. And with ndiswrapper, the first time i tried to execute that function, i got a message stating that ndiswrapper is not installed followed by agt-get install ndiswrapper-common

But anyway i've been through all the works, but i am now stuck on the last command sudo modprobe ndiswrapper

You can edit the blacklist file, though my concern would be why it was blacklisted.
Try the man system if there's any info there e.g.
man modprobe
man sometimes also works on the configuration file e.g.
man blacklist

There was an initial blacklist instruction for bcm43xx, apparently that prevented the current ubuntu driver from loading after reboot inorder to get the new one working.
i will try that

ndiswrapper is blacklisted to prevent it from being loaded in favor of native kernel drivers. You can just remove it from the blacklist.

sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist

remove ndiswrapper from the list, ctrl+o to safe changes.

Give us the output of:
sudo lspci
