Hello people, I hope someone here can help me :D

After 1 month and 25 days of waiting I finally got my Telkom ADSL line installed today but I still cannot make it work to actually connect to the Internet (I am still using dial-up now)

The guy from Telkom showed up and he could not help me because my modem is not the standard Telkom modem (I have a SAGEM Wi-Fi Modem/Router) so he didnt know which settings to use.

Currently my ISP is Telkom because I thought if they were my ISP I would get some support from the technician, but that didnt help. So I need to know if someone here is familiar with the required Telkom ISP settings

I have the username and password and DNS (primary and secondary) that Telkom faxed to me, but I have no additional information and there are dozens of settings on the router interface that I have no clue what to input.

As I said, is anyone here familiar with the Telkom ISP settings required to set up my connection?

I appreciate any help you people could provide!

Thanks a million!

Cheers!

Oliver

Some of the other settings that you will need is.

Multiplexing Method: LLC Based
VPI: 8
VCI: 35

With username and password and dns settings you should be able to connect. Oh well that was mostly what I had to put on my netgear router to get things going.

Out of interest, what was the problem preventing you from connecting? For future reference.

Yes guys, thanks again for the help and this great forum :D

Utter, I think the problem was that I was using my Modem/router's quick configuration interface which only asks for username/password, but immediately assigns those to a PPPoA by default, so after fiddling around with the settings and with Mean Monster's help, I configured it correctly with those settings and PPPoE.

I'm guessing the VPI/VCI. It takes about 30 min of sitting talking to telkom techs find a decent person who knows what is going on, and even longer to get the information out of them. They are all just refuse to help most times if its not a marconi modem :(

EDIT: Or maybe not hehe

I waited 55 days to get them to install the adsl line, so I can live with 30 minutes if they actually HAD solved my problem, which they didnt.

Thanks again to all the people here and I look forward to becoming a regular visitor on this forum :)

Oooh! Oliver! Consider changing your ISP! there are some unbelievable things happening right now, so please take note of them. Things are getting fun now ;)

More than fun!!

Things are actually becoming interesting and with the new license out in August .... should be even more interesting..... GO TRANSTEL AND ESKOM!!!

Wait werent they government owned LMAO!

Hey imagine this, TRANSTEL AND ESKOM combining power and becoming an single entity namely TELKOM.

erk.. Wait.. ****!
