i'm re-installing xp on my dads pc, i notice now that my c drive and dvd drive show up in the external drive section ... what can i do to remedy this ? basically at the bottom next to the clock i get an icon for an external drive, i notice my c:/ and dvd drive are also shown in there.

the pc is an amd 5000+ 64*2
i have no idea what brand the mobo is but if i have to guess i'll say msi ?
3gb of ram

i'm using driver genius to update all the drivers, not sure if that will help.

is there anything else i should try ?

That is not a problem.
The PC will function fine.

It has got to do with how your HDD is setup now.

To be safe, leave it as it is.

That happens when you set it to AHCI iirc

thanks, how can i undo that setting ?

If you change it, you have the risk of the pc not booting again. Sometimes you need to re-install windows when you want to change it.

You change it in the BIOS. If you want specific steps, we need the specific mobo that you are using.

thanks, guess i'll give it a miss. i don't know the mobo and really don't want to re-install again.
