bought a new router, d link dsl-2500 adsl2+ but i cant log into it! The ip addy on the booklet is 192.168.1.1 but it just says cannot find page. Ok some backround. My router blew in a storm so this is a new 1. The lan port on my mobo is also blown so im using a add-on card. The lights on the router all light up so i know its using. The disk that came with the router gives me some access error when i try the auto install and ofcourse the ip addy aint going through so what else can i try to log onto the router?

sent from my phone so sorry for the errors. The router lights all come on so i know its working. Just cant log into it to enter my isp username and password

Remember that the password for the router is different than that of the ISP account!
The username/password would be something like:
username=admin,password=(blank)
username=admin,password=admin
username=admin,password=password

uninstall router software.

Plug router in & try connect to router using the IP you mentioned without running that disk.

Then see what happens.

Remember the admin password is often set as default to admin.

yeah i know the router password is diff from my isp 1 :) thing is im not even getting the log on page. i did run the ipconfig thing and nothing comes up just says ip configuration nothing else. my previous router was a billion should i unistall that software? i didnt think that would be a problem so that didnt occur to me.

yes it is always best to uninstall redundent hardware.

Will not always cause conflict, but does at times.

Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.100
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.254

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
Well, if you don't get something that looks like that your PC and router obviously aren't speaking to each other. Are you sure your new network card is working properly?

i have had one or 2 boards where the onboard LAN chip needs to be removed to allow an add on card to work.

Have the onboard LAN drivers been uninstalled? If not then do so now. Actually uninstall both. Then fresh install new addon card.

If you've connected the router via LAN cable, then you don't need to have any software installed on your computer, except for SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) software if you want to monitor your router :D

Also, if you simply run 'ipconfig' it would immediately close the window. You have to open Command Prompt and then type in 'ipconfig' + <Enter> to be able to view the ipconfig info.

If your PC's IP address is not in the 192.168.1.x range, then you'll need to change it.
Your IP address should be like 192.168.1.100, subnet mask = 255.255.255.0, gateway = 192.168.1.1, dns = 192.168.1.1

I would also advise you to do what Venomous said, by going into the BIOS and disabling the onboard LAN.
I've seen strange stuff with onboard LAN devices when I was working at Stellenbosch University's Student IT Centre... The strangest case I had was that the onboard LAN device simply disappeared from Windows, so I installed an add-on card and then suddenly the onboard LAN device worked again. After I removed the add-on card again, the onboard LAN was still working 100%. LOL.

I had a wireless DLink router that would sometimes forget it's settings, the only way I could then enter it's config was using an ethernet cable after resetting it and using the default username and password which it should tell you either in the documentation or somewhere in the packaging along with the IP address to goto.

Also DLink has a local site which should be able to help you if you don't get things sorted out.

make sure your pc is set to obtain an IP address automatically then click on repair the connection or go to DOS prompt and type ipconfig /renew.
