Telkom has no answers and Afrihost has no answers. My line is so bad that I get less than 384 speeds (on 4MB account) and when playing online on a local server I rubber band all over the place.

My stats:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4096 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 17.0 db 9.0 db
Noise Margin 22.5 db 12 db

I did a tracert to google and pinged Afrihost.com:

Telkom first said it was exchange congestion, but last week I was notified that the problem was fixed. Now they are saying it is a network error, but the line is getting progressively worse. I cannot go wireless as there is nobody in my area that can help me. The best reception I get on Vodacom and MTN is Edge.

Is there someone who would be able to help me (looking at the stats above?)

I did a speedtest but unfortunately I cannot upload it anywhere because my line is too crappy but basically:
Ping (JHB Server) = 153ms
Download speed = 0.31Mbps
Upload Speed = 0.26Mpbs

I am getting really frustrated because nobody is able to assist me. So if anybody has some advice or maybe have a phone number of somebody I can phone, PLEASE HELP!

It looks like you're sitting on a congested exchange, seeing that your first hop's latency is already that high!

Check out the congested exchange thread to see if your suburb/exchange is amongst them!

Exchange congestion is usually dependant on the time of day or day of the week, but it could also get worse due to Telkom moving people from say 1Mbps to 2Mbps connections, which just increases the contention ratio for the worse!

Perhaps you should try and get in contact with a Telkom techie that actually works in the exchange, because he'll most likely can tell you if the exchange is congested or not.

Lastly: are your neighbours also experiencing the same issues?

Did you recently move phone handsets around? Make sure all your handsets are connected properly via micro filters. The last time I had connection issues, it was due to a handset not connected via a filter.
I doubt it's that in your case, as your sync rate seems fine, but worth a look.

keep an eye on your sync, see if it disconnects/reconnects/resyncs etc

Telkom would automatically sync lower if there is too much noise on the line, but what I've found is that sometimes it could be excess noise on the line that forces the sync to drop. your ISP connection won't necessarily drop, only the sync, and that makes it slow as hell.

AcidRazor:
ADSL2+ can resync without dropping the ISP connection, but G.DMT would drop the ISP connection if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks guys. I have tried both a Telkom account and an Afrihost account and they both have the same issue. Telkom did say there was congestion, but according to them that problem has been resolved... Not sure about my neighbours - I doubt any of them have ADSL... :)

And as for handset - no, no handset connected. This line is purely for online gaming, etc.
