In March 2005 I had the "privilege" to have a 512 ADSL line installed. Due to the fact that I had a contract with MWeb, I had to sign up with them until the end of August.

In July I saw on MyADSL that there are other ISP's that offer better deals. On the 1 Sept 2005 I switched to AxxessAfrica, and then my problems started.

Browsing seems to be fine, but I have problems with a charting package that I run. Response time is slow.

Out of frustration I joined Telkom ISP yesterday to see whether I can solve my problems. But it seems not to have solved my problems.

Then I had a look at my results at tcpIQ. What a shock! After I joined Telkom, my download speed dropped even further.

Please have a look at http://www.adsl.ukmadeeasy.com/, and tell me what you think.

I have asked Telkom to check my connection yesterday(14 Sept 05). After I phoned this morning to query the fault, they said there is a problem, and would send a technician to have a look. Its now 16:15 and still waiting for the technician. 32 hours after I reported the fault!

ADSL subscribers usually get priority when theres faults on the line. I know i had a fault but they sorted it out within few hours. Surprisingly, a telkom tech phoned me a week later and asked if everything was kewl  Im guessing your line is totally flipped ?

You musr keep it in mind that the test performed here is all using int. bandwitdh. did you do any test with telkom local spped test?

Nb!!

Remember that your isp has got NOTHING to do with your line speed, they do NOT effect your browsing speed.

Everything on adsl goes directly through Telkom into the WWW.

Your isp only buys an open "line" known as an account from telkom and then sells it back to you with a mark up, and provide extra services like web hosting and email etc.

so changing isps wont make your connection faster.

I would say that the problem is caused at the exchange, maybe it is too busy. causing a slow connection for that entire area.

Saix have been having all sorts of problems lately. This has not been the case in the past. What you are seeing has nothing to so with the ISP's. If you go to the Saix Noticeboard you will see a history of their problems.

e.g

STT000000004298 17 Sep 2005, 14:14:45 Bellville ESR 1 router failure
STT000000004289 15 Sep 2005, 15:50:38 Cape Town WBS-IP-ESR-1 - Link down
STT000000004288 15 Sep 2005, 11:20:19 Cape Town WBS-IP-ESR-1 - Link down
STT000000004287 15 Sep 2005, 10:55:33 Bronberg - ESR Line card failure
STT000000004281 14 Sep 2005, 01:35:45 Line Down from New Germany ESR 1 to Durban Core 1
STT000000004279 13 Sep 2005, 14:45:07 Cape Town WBS-IP-ESR-1 - Link down

It goes on further down the page.

Cheers

Yes I did. The Ftp test reported 423.10K bits per second, and the http test reported 441.2 Kbps.
