I'm working with a dedicated ADSL line that's used to upload a single mp3 stream to an icecast server. It currently has a single port D-Link DSL-2500u router that keeps losing sync and needs to be turned off before working again. It used to regularly lose all settings, until I put it in bridge mode. Now it works for a week or so before bombing out. This is happening with three different firmware versions, so I think something broke along the way, or there is actually a problem with the Telkom line. Replacing the router is the easier troubleshooting step.

So please recommend a reliable single port ADSL router, that likes bridge mode, preferably with a web interface written by someone fluent in English?

How about another D-Link DSL-2500u? Those things cost next to nothing (I've had about 10 due to using them as lightning protection for my more expensive wireless router) & they just work .. despite your's being a bit wonky.

how about this?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linksys_WRT54G_series

simple and upgradeable to DD-WRT, probably the best firmware around with a zillion different network options
tuns a R500 router to a R5000 one for free

got one at home running our network, runs like a dream.

They still make those? :D I'd prefer something without wifi though; going on the principle that the simpler the device is, the less likely it is to have problems in the future.

I wasn't too impressed with DD-WRT on a W54G, but that was way too underpowered to run it correctly.

WRT54G is not an option because you need an ADSL port. Also DD-WRT will not run on anything with an ADSL modem. Keep in mind that DD-WRT adds features, but you do lose speed.

I would go for something like this, or this, or this. I have the last one, I think I got it at a better deal with Wootware.

Excluding this one, I only have one out five D-Link devices that has survived past 2 years of use, so I've sworn off them. But if there is no alternative...
