My chick broke the screen on her s4 mini and its R2K to repair so it doesn't seem worth it.

Can you please recommend a Android phone in the R3k range?

Meizu got a better full HD screen I believe. Larger battery also I think.

I loathe running with my monstrous Note 2 and was thinking of getting something smaller.
I do not game/watch movies on my phone, so it's pretty much, whatsapp, endomondo, tapatalk, friendface etc.

Another option you may wish to consider is the Wileyfox Swift, a new phone from a UK-based company that runs Cyanogen OS:

But I still prefer "stock Android + enhancements" software experience of the Moto G, rather than Cyanogen.

Says the iPhone clone from a lesser known company (which means even less support). Plus I think 5-5.2" is the current sweet point when it comes to size.
