My telkom supplied router is starting to pack up and, obviously, it is out of warranty.

I am concidering the D-Link DI-604 (UPDATE: I actually meant the D-Link DSL-504T) as a replacement:

Any other options with which you guys/gals have had success with?

Thanx. :)

There are many,

I bought a D-Link; I must be honest and say I had a lot of issues setting it up and getting it working; I eventually took it back to the supplier and we got it working.

Again it depends on how much you want to spend... most wholesalers have a number in stock, I've had no hassles with Surecom, and Chronos (Almost all of them use the Connexant Firmware, which Telkom / Marconi routers use.)

I've also had many happy clients using Chronos... Those are less than R500 retail!

Rectron
Pinnacle Micro (D-Link)
Genex Solutions (if you're in CPT)
Even Sahara, if you don't mind crappy service

are recomended wholesalers. (If you can buy wholesale that is)

Is the D-Link working OK for you now?

I've got an account at Pinnacle Micro and D-link, as you say, is stocked by them.

Netgear is also good...

The D-Link is working, but I'm a bit worried about changing any settings...

D-Link and Pinnalce Micro provide a good service plus they have a South African office (D-Link) so you can't go wrong with them.

That router you picked out is awesome and works really well. Although remember that it is just a router i.e. you have to have an ADSL modem as well and then connect via PPPoE. You can buy the DSL-300T from D-Link which will do the job and is cheap as well.

If you want one device to replace the that Telkom router, you have to look at the DSL-504T or DSL-G604T which has a modem built-in.

I got the 300T (I think) and a 8 port D-Link switch... I use the router in PPPoE "bridge mode". It gave me loads of uphill at first.

I recon the DSL-G604T would be you best bet... They're not that expensive either.

I had a dlink DSL-G604T more than a year ago when I lived in London. Compared to my billlion (7402G) and netgear routers (DG834G) that i'm using now, it was really rubish. They may have updated the firmware to make it better by now but i won't recommend it to anyone. I've been using the netgear for about a year and i'm really impressed. I started using the billion a couple of months back and it's currently the router i recommend people get because it has so many extra features like QOS that make it the best value for money. Go for the billion 7202G if you don't want an integrated vpn server, it's available from digitalplanet.

lol :D

Oh yes, I had 2 windows open and copied and pasted from the wrong window. The one I was actually interested in was the D-Link DSL-504T, which, as you said, has a built-in adsl modem.

Thanks Gambit. I think I'm going for either the netgear or the Billion.

Thanks again all for your advise. :p

Been reading these with interest. I'm shopping for either the D-Link (DSL504T) or the NetGear (DG632) as both units function as a 4-port router + the ADSL modem.
It seems from browsing the posts that some people are happy with both. Also from what I can see the pricing is pretty similar.
Post an update as to what you've settled on and if you're happy with the unit -
Thanks

I have a Netgear DG834 and it really isn't bad either. I've never had a problem with it and I'm happy. D-Link aren't bad but buy yourself a Cisco ;)
