Are you using some kind of surge/lightening protection on your telephone line?

Nope, I used to have a Dlink Modem which had line surge protection on the power supply plug, but that didn't help either. Now I just unplug the telephone line when a storm approaches

ADSL routers are quite inexpensive these days. Unfortunately voltage damage can be very difficult to combat.
