Moving soon to a new house and the owner of the old house sold me the modem (YAY!). So I'm getting a new Telkom ADSL line in the new house in my name.

Please can someone talk me through setting up the modem. The modem is a D-link modem.

Step by step slowly please because I have never done this before. I'm going to print this and take it with me. Line is going in the day after I move so will be without internet until I can get it hooked up.

Thanks a zillion.

PS This forum is amazing when it comes to help!!

You are going to need to supply us with a model number...

VPI/VCI: 8/35

PPPoE with Username and password.

HUH?

D-Link model number: DSL-2750U

Also perform a factory reset before doing anything.

And change the default password for the admin account.

I can do a factory reset. That is pressing the reset button at the back right?

How do I change the password for the admin account? Where is the admin account? What is the admin account? I only know the password and sign in.

Won't I get a new admin account with the new line?

Damn I assumed you knew the basics.

Thanks that is helpful. Quick question - will the admin stuff reset if I press the hard reset? I didn't set this one up, it was set up when I moved in, and I have no idea how to access that if I need to change something before I move, or if I even should. Will it affect their account at all or just the modem itself?

Pressing the reset button on the router will set the router back to the settings it came out of the factory with.

This will not have any effect on your ADSL account.

Well the current account belongs to the owners of the house I'm leaving. I'm getting a new account.

So just to be clear - if I hit reset and plug it in at the new house, I should be able to just go through the set up as if it is a new one?

Yes indeed.

Just make sure you know what the default admin password will be before resetting, probably 'admin'...
