I could just imagine Tibby.dude(ette) in a couple of years time as the Future Internet Social relations ANC internet youth dictator(backspace backspace backspace backspace)...leader, requesting that all "offensive" nicknames will have to be immeditaley changed or your computer will be confiscated under the new "computer grab" law.

So I go on Holiday and when I come back I have to break and enter (key doesn't work). Stoke is sitting in my lounge. He says good morning what do you want (its 1am?) . I says hey this is my house, long drive wanna sleep GEROUT! So then Stoke calls the cops and has me arrested for breaking and entering.
 
Thats why i would take the law into my own hands. Secondly , get an alarm linked to a security company.

You got it all wrong ... we will adopt the Chinese model of internet regulation ;).

So no nice requests for infringers ... you will either be sent to a mental hospital for treatment of your 'illness' (electric shock therapy) or alternatively 10 years of hard labour in a quarry in the Northern Cape for disturbing the social harmony :).

I always believed that if somebody entered a house with out the owners consent it was illegal.. .Even if my back door was standing open.

What if my house keys are stolen, and they use those to gain entry.. is it then legal? Even if you by-pass my alarm, kill my dog, etc.

The law seems to be protecting the criminals more and more and less the victims

Trespassing !! It is a criminal offence but try and arrest someone for that.

Not forced entry so ..... not housebreaking. Would have to prove the keys were stolen
 
yeah. I recall a lecturer once saying this to our class: "If the door is wide open, and someone walks in: unlawful entry. If the door is slightly open, they push it open, then walk in: forced entry"
 
So if one of these homes in Clifton is standing empty cause the owner lives abroad I can go squat there for the summer?
 
Yes neio, provided you fix/remove the signs of breaking-and-entering! Thus, break into the place, replace the locks, and A1!
 
So when the politicians leave for break and you 'break in' and replace the locks ect they dont have a leg to stand on?

Where is the phone book, I need to house some people on a ad-hoc basis when they visit me from CT.
 
if they steal the keys and claim they are the legimate owners, wouldn't they then have to produce the deeds to the house, or proof of payment towards the bond etc. if the rightful owner can produce it, wouldn't that be proving that the keys were stolen. i was always under the impression that they can't squat on a piece of land if the deeds to said land are not on their name - cos that would be trespassing :confused: this law of becoming legimate owners after squatting for 3 days doesn't add up. if that's the case people would be squatting on prime land in the poshest suburbs and after 3 days claim it to be theirs
