I have Plex Media Server installed on a Microserver that has all my media stored on it. I use a Minix X8H-Plus android box with Plex app to play back media which is streamed over my home network.

Large movie files suffer from buffering as the processor in the Microserver does not have the grunt to handle these size files. How do I set up my Plex Server so that the Android box handles the transcoding instead of the server?

Also anyone with experience with Plex app on the Minix Android boxes know what settings to use to get the multichannel audio to be passed through to my AVR? Now all I get is 2 channel audio......

Are you using Ethernet?

Also settings - advanced - player - audio passthrough.

Have you tried the official Plex add on in Kodi? It is now open to all users.

What processor are you running in your server?
I have an i3-540 that does all the work for me and streams the content to my TV via wifi.

I had the same issue with my setup, I have plex server on my WD my Cloud and the android app on my Mygica ATX582. All connected via Ethernet. I switched to the Plex Kodi add-on and that solved all my issues. Try that

Firstly transcoding always happens server side, no way to change that.

But it shouldn't be transcoding to a native Plex App and should be Direct Playing so make sure that is switched on in the client if there is such a option.

Some more ideas...

1. Always stick to Original Quality so there is no transcoding at play.

2. Turn off Subtitles. If they need to be burned in it always transcodes.

The Microserver has a near useless processor.

So the easiest answer is not to transcode at all.

Many people set the quality lower thinking it helps...but actually it does the exact opposite because that forces transcoding.
